Mini Amor Dress

ALICE by Temperley
On Monday the email system at the office was down and I couldn't do any work so I decided to use the time and surf the net for any final mark downs; I do love sale stalking on the internet. This Mini Amor T-shirt dress, ALICE by Temperley was marked down even further to £38 (originally £95). At that price I had to snap it up as it was way cheaper than anything else you could have got in Top Shop.

Well it arrived today and I am very pleased with it. Its in supersoft cotton and will be perfect to wear for a 40th birthday party this Saturday. I won't even have to wear spanx pants underneath as its not too clingy. I'll dress it up with some studded leather ankle boots and patterned Wolford tights.

Those of you who saw my Twitter musings; I had also found the Halston Heritage cocktail dress on sale; as worn by SJP in SATC2.

There was a lovely horizon blue version for sale at Question Air and I pondered if I should get it. After much Twitter debate I came a across another one in purple at Stylebop. What a choice and which one should I get? This would be a very wearable dress for work, play, dining out etc.

Then a whole hoard of people turned up and surrounded me because the woman at the next desk started her bake sale! Well I had to click off-line as I couldn't look that obvious doing non-related work at the computer. I even tried to buy up the cake stock to get rid of everyone but by the time I could get back on-line - my size had already gone in both colours - boo hoo. I guess it was not to be.... then I came across this...

Salon Fresh Swishy

I dodged the rain back and my crowning glory is still salon fresh and feeling swishy. I had popped out on my lunch break to get my hair done by Y at Charles Worthington for my regular cut and finish. We had a long talk about what to do with my hairstyle; as my biggest ambition (well for 2011) is to grow my hair really long... I know I could probably get extensions but I wanted it to be my own work. Sound silly but for my last year as a 30something (yikes hit 40 in October) I want to have the longer style locks I always wished I had grown in my youth. For some unknown reason I can't work out why I never had long hair as a child (always a practical bob) then in my teenage years it was various choppy styles ... Dempsey and Makepeace was very big on TV and Glynis had great hair! Onto my 20's whilst working in Fashion Editorials - I chopped it all off for a Mia Farrow Pixie crop. Looking back on those photos I really looked like my brother (and not in a good way). For 30, I grew it long for my wedding, only to put it into an updo. During my first pregnancy the major heatwave and hormones made me cut it all off again leaving my face looking fat and frumpy. I feel this is my last chance to really try before certain style rules have to be observed as I wouldn't want to be accused of being mutton dressed as lamb. So wish me luck and I will keep you posted on how my hair growing adventure goes.

I'm back!!!! I've missed you all

Hello readers, sorry for the radio silence, those of you who follow me on Twitter might know I dropped my laptop and broke it. It was a really silly accident; it only fell one foot onto the floor but it was enough to damage the screen leaving half of it blank. Very annoying and it had to be sent away via the insurance company to be fixed. Anyway its back and oh how I have missed it. I hadn't realised how much time I spent on it most evenings, sat on sofa, in front of the telly, eating my dinner etc. Blogging, commenting, tweeting, facebooking....mmmm note to self get a life and go out more??? Phone a friend, have a conversation with OH....

In the interim I got a new Blackberry from work and was able to tweet and check personal emails. But it wasn't the same not being able to read blogs and leave comments. So I've got a lot of catching up to do and seeing what everyone's been up too. Anything new I should know about?

On a separate note - forgive me if this post does not join up (so many things to bash out and make up for lost time). This weather is playing havoc with my skin again. Its gotten very cold again - yes I know its still winter. But after the balmy 12 degrees we had last week its back to being very frosty and chilly. My skin is not coping well and copious amounts of mositurisers are not doing the trick, plus its breaking out in spots *aghast - at my age!*. I will have to give it an extra treat and use Elemis Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules , the pink ones for day and green ones at night. To help re-balance, repair and get my complexion back to normal again. The serums give that extra boost when your skin needs it and works in harmony with my other products. Plus they smell wonderful and give my skin an extra glow.

The very nice woman at the Elemis /John Lewis beauty counter was incredibly helpful and took a detailed account of my regular beauty routine. She didn't tell me off for not cleansing properly (yes I do use wipes but who has the time to do it properly?) Mary Portas would have been proud of my customer service experience - unlike my other experience.

The Sales - this time I confined myself to upgrading my home rather than my already heaving wardrobe, more bed linen from The White Company. I am addicted to their crisp white sheets. Bath towels by Cath Kidston I am always a sucker for her cheery prints. Plus a new Orla Kiely bag for my beloved laptop. But when it arrived it was too lovely to just house the laptop. I have pinched it to use as my new work bag and reveling on its lovely slim neatness.

The laptop will just have to go back into its black neoprene sleeve unless I snap up this bright number Marc by Marc Jacobs from Net-a-Porter.

Anyone else hearing the rumors of a new iPad being launched this March?? I finally got to have a proper go on one over the Christmas break. D's 17 year old nephew has one (lucky sod!) and we spent a great time playing Ninja Fruits with the tots, which was a very kind a generous thing for a teenager to do. Thing 2 loved swiping his sticky fingers across the screen to chop up the flying fruit. So should I get the other iPad case?

A case of if you build it, it will come...???? Misquote from Fields of Dream (old Kevin Costner movie, when he was a bankable Hollywood star). Stay with me here - when I finally passed my driving test (4th time lucky) my best friend gave me a key ring, as a well done present (Little Miss Chatterbox, can't think why??) to keep my new car keys on. Well I hanged onto the keyring until I did finally manage to purchase my first car - took 4 years but hey I got there in the end. and I still have the keyring (but sadly not the car, the council took it away and crushed it by accident).  But that's another story ...

Chiquitita

I forgot to add this to the end of my yesterday's post (ah at the mercy of cut and paste) - my mission for 2011 is to listen to more music and dance around more. Nothing brings more joy than a spontaneous little boogie around your front room! Happy New Year and a big thank you to everyone who reads my blog, I've met some lovely people through it and although I don't always get round to replying to your comments - I always appreciate the time you give me to leave a few nice words. Happy Feet

This is one of my belated posts due to the festive season/bad weather/busy with day job/up at night with the teething twins/birthday girl.....but somewhere in the world there is snow and might be relevant. I recently commented on Looking Fab in your Forties blog that I was making ski wear purchases in the seasonal sales. We've got two more months of winter here and although it feels positively balmy right now, after the major snow fall we experienced  last month - its only a matter of time for us to be hit with the white stuff again and I want to be prepared.

I haven't been very impressed with what is in the sales, even my beloved Net-a-Porter has not had the items I want at a bargain price. Believe me I've checked top and bottom and nothing has grabbed me and made me drool. I gotta really love/need/want something if I re-stock my already heaving wardrobe.

So onto my first snow bargain - it was quite by accident, I was trying to get hold of some Hello Kitty Snow boots for Curly Haired Beauty that I had seen on the Marks and Spencer's website but the only pair left in the store were too small.

By chance hanging next door, were a pair of bright pink and black snow boots that I thought looked really cool and were in my size. I didn't care these were in the Children's section I just needed to have these in my life - practical but funky. The pink ones have sold out now but if you have small feet they are still for sale here for £18! They are very comfy and they have great grip (better than Ugg's) when walking over icy pavements and my feet stayed perfectly dried when all the snow turned to slush.

I know I should have probably invested in some Snow Joggers but well I really didn't really want to spend the money on something that I would wear occasionally in very bad weather (really how often do we get snowed in here mmmm its already happened twice in 2010). I had the old adage "buy cheap, buy twice" ring in my ears but..... well you decide.

Although when we were in the depths of the wintry weather a pair of these looked very tempting. You can't beat a classic - channelling Abba's Agnetha off-piste look...
