Happy New Year

Leading up to Christmas things on the home front got very frantic so I had no time to post anything on this blog. I had a heap of stuff to review and great gift ideas but it all fell on the way side.

This Christmas it was the turn of the in-laws to host so we made the trek Oop North with all three tots. It was the twins first time up there and also our longest car journey ever, as a family of five. We had to hire a bigger car specially for the trip and boy it really wasn't big enough for our needs (VW Touran). Two modest pieces of luggage, presents, packed lunch but no room for the double buggie, travel cots and other baby paraphernalia. The children's car seats took up so much space, we couldn't really sit three across in the middle row. So Toddler Wild Thing got to ride shot gun, me in the middle row with Curly Haired Beauty and Thing 2 in the very back. It was quite an eventful journey - us girls were car sick/winter vomiting (who knows what it was??). So we were a right sight with our matching pink buckets and bowl - heaving into it. Yes I had the foresight to squeeze these into the car and yes my kitchen does have a high quota of pink kitchen wear.....

We made good time and got to spend a lot of Christmas Eve settling in the kids in a new environment. MIL made good her promise of arranging for cots, stair gate and attempt to toddler proof her home. She briefly managed to lose one of the twins for 20 minutes; who had shut himself into the laundry room. In fact I think I spent most of  Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day asking "Where's...???/Whose... got ???". D has 3 older sisters who all have kids and this was the first Christmas we were all together. That's 8 grandchildren for my in-laws - ages range from 18 years to 20 months. We tried to get a group picture of the kids after Christmas lunch and I have to say it won't be appearing on my mantelpiece. The twins were trying to make a run for it and had to be held down by the teenagers. Curly Haired Beauty has the most surly expression ever (who would have thought she used to be a model?).

The best present she got from Father Christmas (via Toys R Us) was the Barbie Party Palace. Only took me and two teenagers forever to build the night before.  It also took a bit of shoving to get back in the car for the drive home. She has not stopped playing with it since. There is a round turntable gadget, so you can put the dolls on it and make them dance with each other. I totally failed in purchasing the silver suited Ken doll that goes with the set. But she seems really happy with the alternative; the Prince from Beauty and the Beast. Bless her, she calls him 'Pretend Ken'.

A week earlier the twins received an ace early present from their Aunt P. She bought it over from the US (and nearly had a hernia) a  Radio Flyer red wagon. I've been wanting one of these for ages and had seen them on sale at Target, I thought I would drop a quick message on facebook and see if she could bring one over for me. Its no bigger in length than a Phil and Ted buggy but way cooler and was so easy to maneuver when we had all the snow (my pram got stuck). I took it to the supermarket and loaded it up with all my shopping (minus tots of course) and it was a doddle to pull back the load home. We've already done a little outing to the park and the twins seem to love the attention and wave to everyone.

So tonight we say goodbye to 2010 and welcome in 2011. Fireworks are already going off round here and I shall be in bed by ten tonight with my earplugs in! My days dancing at Pacha's NYE party are long gone .... I look back at those photos of me fondly (false eyelashes with diamonte bits - I was so ahead for my time). Happy New Year all, wishing you all happiness, good health and wealth. Or Happy Bye if you are Curly Haired Beauty.

Oooh Matt Cuddles

I should have posted about this on Monday but other event over took *slight hangover* - at lunchtime I was invited to go over to The May Fair Hotel for a festive lunch and view some of the rooms for future events (read into that a big fat jolly for us girls). It was really nice to get out of the office and see everyone for a good catch up and to be treated to a lovely Christmas meal . They served Prosecco Brut Fantinel NV which I thought was even lovelier than champagne, followed by smoked salmon, Christmas Turkey with all the trimming and a mini-Christmas pudding covered in custard with sprinkles of freeze dried strawberries. After much merriment of pulling crackers and donning the paper hats and posing for the obligatory cheesy photos.

We gathered ourselves for a tour of the premises.,,, and who do we run into in the lobby....Matt Cardle or Matt Cuddles to my fellow tweeters from X-Factor. He was having a chin wag with Simon Webbe (ex-Blue singer) and as we were ushered into the lift I had to really crane my head to get a good old stare (for research purposes/not in a stalker way!) Ah it made my day to see him after spending most weekends watching X-Factor. He was wearing a green parka coat (it was a bitterly cold day) but no hat. Paps were outside, all waiting for him (one of my colleagues cadged a light for her fag from one) and there were a smattering of dolled up young girls hanging about (WAGS/dancers?) with too many hair extensions and despite the weather peep toe high heeled boots; although they were lined in shearling....French pedicure on show EEEEEwwwwgggghhhhh - sorry my pet hate is long toe nails.

We got a grand tour of the cinema room, several suites including the ones used for the filming of The Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Got to hear how lovely Matt Damon is who always stays here when in London with his family and dines with the staff. The worse guest was believe it or not was Louis Walsh!  As we were shown around before entering each room there was a lot of ringing the door bell before, to make sure no guests had checked in. On one occasion on such a tour - a very surprised event manager was greeted by a naked footballer. He was not embarrassed but she was - didn't help he was happy to stand naked and not cover himself up. She exited swiftly, closing the door  and her two clients were quite amused by it.

Birthday girl

I've been foiled by the weather, snow has arrived in my part of the world and all those little bits of Christmas internet shopping I had planned are unravelling fast! I was so much organised earlier this month for Curly Haired Beauties 4th birthday party. I had the Hello Kitty themed party-wear delivered by Party Pieces; not yet got the Royal Warrent - ran by Kate Middleton's parents but as good as....

We even had a Hello Kitty Pinata, and the children threw themselves enthusiastically at it to get at all the sweets inside. I didn't plan much party games, as the girls took themselves off to play with the new toys. Leaving the twins to play with the wrapping paper and one lone 5 year old boy cousin. I ended up playing musical statues with him and gave him a prize for being so good. Moon Dough - which he informed me 'never dries out' - ah bless the kids TV adverts that have been on non-stop at this time of year.

I got a personalised cake topper to decorate my home made egg-free chocolate cake and felt pretty good that we had made it as nut free and egg free as possible. Toddler Wild Thing had his egg allergy confirmed a few days before the party plus he is also allergic to nuts! But weirdly Thing 2 is no longer allergic to eggs so at least it makes things slightly easier on the cooking front. Although we have to slowly introduce him to cooked eggs and that means baking him a batch of cupcakes and  feeding him one a day, quarter by quarter until he can consume 3 in a day without any ill effects and then move onto other types of cooked eggs. Mmmmm sounds straight forward but with Toddler Wild Thing being the human hoover, it going to be pretty hard to try and separate him from his lucky cake eating brother.

Happy Birthday darling I don't know where the time has gone. When I look back and remember the 3 day labour, your actual birth was a relief and full of joy. We were truly blessed when you arrived, your lungs working at full capacity and I got to meet you for the first time when you were plopped into my arms. Its a moment I will always treasure as it was the only time I was able to hold a new born. I shed a tear for the loss of not being able to experience that with your twin brothers. Helen the Doula was my kind wonder, who selected your little outfit and put on your knitted woolly hat. Your dad gave you your first bottle while I dozed off (48 hours no sleep).

Alice in Wonderland

I really can't believe my luck - the snow hindered my bargain hunting last week and I did not make one single sample sale that I posted about. Bo hoo my Edna Mode/Issey Miyake fantasy will have to be put on hold for now. BUT tomorrow we have Alice Temperly - Yay! Now I just have to work out how to sneak off to get to it ...I still need something to wear to the office Christmas party next week at a top Central London venue. Well I say need but its more 'I want', yes I could wear something I already own but sometimes a girl just has to treat herself to something new once in a while....

I have been snow bound and stayed at home today. Its amazing how quickly the public transport infrastructure fell apart at the first sign of snow.

They seem to cope fine in Norway but here its a different tale. So I tried to do some work from home but not really sure how successful I was with Toddler Wild Thing and Thing 2 clutching at my ankles. To top it off there were some amazing Sample Sales happening in town today which I missed :-(
