That was the description that caught my eye when scanning the net for up and coming vintage clothing. On closer inspection via D on the mobile who was checking out something else at the auction house. I ascertained these were designed circa late 1989-early 90's by Gianfranco Ferre. D is well used to having to be patient on the phone going through all the hemlines, checking under the arm holes for any stains, looking for rips, tears etc. Getting looks from other people wondering why he of all people is rooting around ladies wear! It probably takes a lot of courage to buy so many items unseen but I guess its no different from getting something off ebay. I met Ferre many years ago when I was a Fashion student - I was in Paris for the Shows but we couldn't get to see Dior's. My tutor T arranged for us to go see a video presentation at the salon. So off we trotted to Ave Montaigne (the exact same place where Carrie/SJP fell over in in the movie) and got to sit on the little gilt chairs and watched on a big screen the collection. Ferre came to check out who all the chattering English voices were - my tutor T in a mixture of French and Italian explained how honored we all were to be there. He felt it was important that we student learnt; the history, techniques and appreciation of couture so it would never die out. As a designer he was very much against following trends and fashion gimmicks.

I left a bid on for £110 and prayed I would get them. Well I did for a bargaintastic £95 - that's cheaper than anything you could get in Whistles, Reiss, French Connection etc- for real couture - the suede jacket alone is worth ker-ching more! I will be able to get hold of my new loot on Monday and will take some better pictures to share with you. I may have to re-model a few things to fit my figure but all the colours are just perfect for SS10. I sincerely hope the previous owner was not short waisted or had narrow shoulders otherwise these will be going on ebay.

  2. Hi there-wow, a fabulous story and very well done on bagging these gorgeous items indeed, can't wait to see them once you've done your adjustments. I agree, designer vintage is hard to beat, I struck lucky too this week as I found a Jean Muir jacket for £6.50 and a beautiful Escada jacket for £10-can't wait to start wearing them too. Have a great weekend!

  3. Good grief couture at that price! I'm liking Mr Ferre very much on the issue of trends and it is so true about the high st stores - you have peachy items. Can we a have an in depth round up of every item! Was this an auction bid via Sotherbys or Christies or other?
